News From the KySTE Board Conference Call

Planning Committee

KySTE logoThis committee is in charge of planning KySTE events, including the Fall Event and Spring Conference. Members include president Diana McGhee (chair), VP Erin Waggoner (Fall Event coordinator), Treasurer Matthew Constant, and past president Cary Petersen, with assistance from Executive Director Gary Grant .

  • Fall Event: In addition to the BYOD/1-1 workshop in partnership with UK/CASTLE, this event will serve DTC/CIOs with a format similar to past years. There will be special attention to eRate, as well as an appearance from new STLP Coordinator Jeff Sebulsky (replacing Elaine Harrison Lane). Jeff will also have sessions aimed specifically at STLP interests. Registration will open soon. Note new date and location: Monday, Oct. 28, Lexington Convention Center.
  • Core-AppsKySTE 2014: Per board decision in May, Diana is moving forward with a full conference support app delivered by Core-Apps, and dropping the full published conference program (PDF version still available). This changes options for exhibitor advertising.

Budget

KySTE obtains funds from membership dues, events, and vendors in the form of donations, partnerships, and sponsorships. A balance representing a contingency fund plus yearly operating expenses is carried forward each July 1. KySTE returns all funds in excess of this amount as services to our members, primarily as grants through KySTE Outreach.

As of July 1, the following balances were reported:

  • Checking: $96,684.11
  • Savings: $150,339.56
  • Outstanding/Payable: $4,010.38 (credit card), and $33,275 (KySTE Outreach grant disbursements)

This represents a substantial increase from last year's July 1 report. A final decision about the 2013-14 KySTE Outreach offering will be made after a full year's-end accounting report.

Other Committees

No other committees have been active since the last Board meeting.

KySTE Outreach News

KySTE OutreachSTLP at ISTE 2013KySTE presented students from the state’s STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) organization a donation to help offset their costs to the national ISTE conference held in San Antonio in June. KySTE, using funds from the KySTE Outreach program, was able to donate over $9,000 to the students and their chaperones. Pooja Patel, one of the student engineers, said of the donation and the STLP experience as a whole, “I have had a wonderful time working with KySTE. It is remarkable the growth I have seen in myself from being a part of this program. I hope you continue to support the STLP Engineers and realize how beneficial it truly is for many students.”

KySTE is committed to the support of technology in and for education in Kentucky, and thanks vendor partners such as Enterasys and HP, vendor partners for 2012-2013, for their contributions.
