KySTE 2014

January 15, 2014. This mostly-monthly newsletter contains announcements and information from the KySTE Board meetings. Look below for the latest news from the Kentucky Society for Technology in Education.

News From the KySTE Board Conference Call

KySTE's conference call was January 13 over Microsoft Lync.

Planning Committee

This committee is in charge of planning KySTE events, including the Fall Event and Spring Conference.

  • Fall Event: With board approval, VP Erin Waggoner and President Diana McGhee, in coordination with next year's incoming vice president,  will continue KySTE's partnership with the University of Kentucky's College of Education in bringing the Fall Event. The tentative date is Tuesday, Oct. 21. Last year's interest in 1-1/BYOD will be repeated, with an expanded focus on technical interests and issues, including possibly digital textbooks.
  • KySTE 2014:
    • Early Bird Registration closes in less than three weeks! KySTE membership discounts go away Feb. 1!
    • Schedule Available. Thursday/Friday concurrent sessions have now been scheduled, with a schedule matrix available here (PDF -- subject to change).
    • Pre-conference workshops (Wednesday) work is nearly completed, with threads for CIOs, techs, TIS's, LMS's, leadership, STLP, including scheduled sessions on CIITS, BYOD,  Edmodo, and lots of others. Look for several sessions by "Expertly Speaking" presenter Meg Ormiston. Watch for an announcement on kyste.org.
    • Infinite Campus. The Wednesday pre-conference workshop includes a full day's sessions delivered by Infinite Campus. Tell your district or school-level Student Information folks to sign up. One-day passes are available.
    • Sponsorship levels are up! Why should you care? Sponsorships directly feed member services, including the KySTE Reception at the Sports and Social Club, and KySTE Outreach funding levels. Thanks to our vendor partners!
    • KySTE 2014 Conference Volunteers will once again be coordinated by Susan Kerr Vincentz. Contact her if you are attending, and want to help. It's a great way to meet and work with the KySTE leadership!
    • "BIrds of a Feather." Once again, KySTE 2014 will be offering meeting space for people who share a passion for some idea, technology, instructional practice. Our intent is to encourage peer/community discussions on issues. Past BofF sessions have included iPads, BYOD, 1-1, LMS, and others. This year's sessions might include "flipped classrooms," 3D printing, electronic texts -- or any idea/technology you think important! If you have a passion, and would like to schedule a session to meet like-minded folks at KySTE 2014, contact Jeffrey Jones.

As of December 31, the Budget Committee's monthly figures were as follows:
