Introducing the ISTE-Verizon Mobile Learning Academy

ISTE Verizon Mobile Learning Academy...a wonderful free professional learning opportunity for K-12 public, private and charter schools in the United States that will help school teams of teachers, tech coaches and administrators prepare for successfully integrating mobile technology into learning and teaching. Teams of educators will work together to make the pedagogical and cultural change necessary to leverage mobile technology to improve and accelerate student learning. This program is funded by the Verizon Foundation and is limited to United States’ schools only, as per their commitment to the White House’s Connected Program. ISTE is inviting school teams from across the continental United States to apply to participate in the first phase of the program. Learn more and apply here: http://iste.org/vmla.

News From the KySTE Conference Call, Monday, September 8

Finance Committee

This committee is in charge of planning and managing KySTE's financial needs, and is chaired by Matthew Constant, KySTE Treasurer. The "loss" this month is largely due to disbursed KySTE Outreach grants. 

  • Treasurer's Report: 
    • Total Checking and Savings: $$256,619.61, 
    • Total Assets:  $385,381.11,  
    • Net income (loss) for August: -$19,105.65;  

Planning Committee

This committee is in charge of planning KySTE events, including the Fall Event and Spring Conference.

  • "Digital Transformation" (2014 Fall Event): Registration is still open! Watch the Fall Training Event page on kyste.org for a matrix of sessions, coming soon!
  • KySTE 2015 (March 4-6): 
    • Leslie FisherPresident Erin Waggoner announced the selection of  Leslie Fisher for this year's conference featured presenter. Leslie will be contributing to sessions during the pre-conference workshops on Wednesday, and concurrent sessions Thursday. (More on Leslie in future editions of the Members Update.) 
    • Executive Director Gary Grant reported that exhibit hall sales are ahead of last year. 
    • Apply to present! Only a handful of presenters have applied. For more information,  -- see above for more.

Governance Committee

This committee, chaired by Parliamentarian Susan Vincentz, is charged with managing the organization's Bylaw, and Policy and Procedures. With the help of the KySTE Board, she will be organizing a timeline of Board and committee chair responsibilities.

Other Committees/Board Actions

Nominating, Awards, and Marketing committees had no new items for this board meeting.
